We are so excited for you to choose The Windmill House on Highland Lake for your home away from home. My family has had a home on this lake since I was young, and I am thrilled to be able to start making memories in my very own space. This unique house was lovingly built by a couple who made fifty years of memories here. We fell in love with the enchanted forest and a quiet life in the treetops. This is not your typical New Hampshire lake town. Both the locals and those who vacation here choose Stoddard because of its beauty and commitment to conserving land for everyone to enjoy. There’s no nightlife if you aren’t an owl, but there are beautiful hikes and pristine swimming holes and a quaint town committed to its history. Please enjoy the lake, take a hike and soak in the views, relax in the hammock, or curl up on the couch with a book. 

Things to know for a GREAT trip!

Unfortunately there are lots of challenging steps in this house and a pretty steep descent to the lake. All of those add to the super cool treehouse feeling, but make it not a good choice for families with very young children or guests that have limited mobility. We have zone heating and portable air units but there is no central HVAC. We have great blankets and lots of windows so we find it quite comfortable in all seasons but our guests should keep in mind their own preferences. The hill to the house is..significant. We navigate it fine in a 2wd car during the dry seasons, but in mud, ice, or snow a 4wd vehicle is essential. I promise.
